July 16 court date set for Vos
A court date is set for Thursday, July 16 for Michael Stean Vos, Jr., 18, of Holland. Vos is charged with vehicular homicide and two counts of DWI following a May 24 single car accident that led to the death, two days later, of Zachary L. Blawat, 16, of Pipestone.
The proceedings begin at 10:30 a.m. at the Minnehaha County Courthouse at 425 North Dakota Ave. in Sioux Falls.
According to a copy of the charges, Vos is charged with driving a motor vehicle while under the influence of alcohol, without intent to effect death, but in a negligent manner, which resulted in the death of another human being.
A report of the crash stated that Vos was driving a 1994 Ford Probe south on I-29 when he lost control of the vehicle and entered the median. Once the vehicle entered the median it rolled end over end several times. Both Vos and Blawat were ejected from the vehicle and taken to Sanford Medical Center in Sioux Falls, where Blawat died on May 26 as a result of injuries sustained during the accident.
Witnesses reported to the South Dakota Department of Public Safety that prior to the crash, the vehicle was driving well over the posted speed limit.
