Vos faces up to 15 years in prison for Blawat death
Michael Stean Vos, Jr., 18, of Holland was arraigned Thursday, July 16 at the Minnehaha County Courthouse in Sioux Falls.
The Minnehaha County Grand Jury charged Vos on June 4 with vehicular homicide and two counts of DWI following a one-vehicle crash that occurred on May 24 in Sioux Falls. Zachary L. Blawat, 16, of Pipestone was a passenger in the vehicle and died two days later at Sanford Medical Center in Sioux Falls from injuries sustained in the crash.
Vos faces a maximum sentence of 15 years in the State Penitentiary and a $30,000 fine for vehicular homicide and a maximum sentence of one year in Minnehaha County Jail and a $2,000 fine for DWI.
According to the charges Vos “did, while under the influence of alcoholic beverages, and without a design to effect death, operate and drive a motor vehicle in a negligent manner, thereby causing the death of another human being.”
