Law limits residents to three animals
The crowd that filled Pipestone City Hall, Monday evening, and overflowed out into the hallway was there to give their opinion about the sale of land in Harmon Park for a Coborn’s Superstore.
All except one person.
Lake Wilson resident Susan Wienands, who owns property in Pipestone, went to the podium during the regular community comment portion of the meeting to ask the councilors to table an issue on their agenda that she believed was important, but was being overshadowed by the Harmon Park/Coborn’s issue.
“This is a pretty serious thing,” Wienands said. “I think it would bring a crowd similar to tonight’s.”
The issue Wienands referred to was an ordinance on the agenda the city is proposing that would make it illegal for Pipestone residents to have more than three animals.
Specifically, the ordinance, which would be added to the city’s code on “Unlawful Acts Relating to Animals,” would make it, “unlawful for any person to have more than three (3) dogs or three (3) cats over six (6) months of age on his/her premises or any combination thereof for a total of three (3).”
When the ordinance came up on the agenda, the council decided to table the issue until its Nov. 16 meeting.
