No injuries occurred from a garage fire that broke out late Tuesday afternoon at 610 Third Ave. SW.
Taylor and Danielle Thompson, owners of the garage, said Taylor had started a fire in the wood burner then ran to town on an errand when he received a phone call that the garage was on fire. He said he had just installed the wood burner a couple weeks ago. A fresh pile of cut wood was in the backyard.
Betty Stanton, a next door neighbor whose house is built close to the garage, said she heard a pop as if something had blown up. By the time she realized the garage was on fire, someone had already called 911.
“I could just visualize my siding burning,” she said. “I certainly was concerned until they got here.”
The structure sent out clouds of consistent smoke until firefighters from the Pipestone Fire Department cut a hole in the roof and doused the flames in the attic with a hose.
