Al Opland Singers to present Christmas show Dec. 1-4

The Al Opland Singers will perform their annual Christmas show Friday, Dec. 1 through Sunday, Dec. 4 at the Pipestone Performing Arts Center (PPAC).

This year’s show is called “The Colors of Christmas.” Dallas Roskamp, co-producer with Denise Halbur, said the show includes some songs that play on the theme of colors such as “White Christmas” and “Blue Christmas,” and others such as “Oh, Holy Night,” “Mary, Did You Know,” and “Socks for Christmas” to name a few.

Roskamp said the show includes men’s numbers, women’s numbers, small groups, duets and solos. Samantha Davis and Connor Klimek will perform duets and Emily Blaeser and Kaitlyn Cole will sing solos. Lori Fey will play the violin, which is a new feature for the Oplands.

“It’s going to be a good addition,” Roskamp said.

He said there are more members of the Al Opland Singers this time around than there have been for recent shows with 32. They come from Pipestone, Edgerton, Marshall, Slayton, Hadley, Brandon, Ward and other locations, and range in age from 20s to 70s.

This will be the eighth or ninth show Roskamp has produced. He said most of those have been Christmas shows because his faith is important to him and he enjoys sharing the good news with others.

Roskamp joined the Al Opland Singers in 1985. He said he’s sung since he was a child, including in choir during high school and college.

“It’s fun to sing,” Roskamp said.

The Opland’s Christmas show is at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Friday and Saturday, and 2 p.m. Sunday. Roskamp invited everyone to “come out and watch.”

Tickets are $15 for adults and $7 for students. They are available at the box office, which is now located at the PPAC, Tuesday through Friday from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m. and Saturday at noon and prior to show time; online at www.pipestoneperformingartscenter.com; or by calling 507-825-2020.
