Arrows edged by Cardinals, 161-162; Brockberg fifth on girls’ side

  The Pipestone Area boys’ golf team came up short in its final home dual meet of the season Thursday afternoon at the Pipestone Country Club in Pipestone, bowing out to the visiting Redwood Valley Cardinals 161-162.

Matt DeBates was in the hunt for medalist honors, carding a solid round of 37, but RWV’s Lincoln Orada was two strokes better in leading his side to victory.

PAS junior Jackson Morgan stepped up as the Arrows’ No. 2 on the day, finishing with a round of 40, while the Arrows’ top golfer Braxton Thompson fired in a 41 – to place the pair fourth and fifth, respectively, in the field of 12. Breylon Kuiper tied for sixth with a round of 44, Max Taubert (9th) came in at 45 and Will DeBates carded a 48 to complete the Arrows.

On the girls’ side Thursday afternoon, Pipestone Area freshman Vivian Brockberg was one against many. Brockberg shot par on the par-4 No. 3, carded five bogeys and three others over her round of 48 that placed her fifth out of 11.

The Arrows will compete in the first round (qualifier) of the two-day Section 3AA tournament Wednesday (girls, May 24) and Thursday (boys, May 25) at Oakdale Golf Club in Buffalo Lake. Those qualifying for the second round will play the following Wednesday morning (May 31) back at Oakdale.
