Candidate filing period opened Tuesday


Those who want to be on the ballot for the Nov. 6 election began filing for candidacy on the opening day of Tuesday, May 22.
The filing period lasts for two weeks until June 5 at 5 p.m.
Candidates running for federal office must file with the Office of the Minnesota Secretary of State. Those running for state offices may file with either the county auditor of the county in which they reside, or with the Office of the Minnesota Secretary of State.
Candidates for county offices must file with the county auditor. Candidates for municipal offices within cities that have primaries must file with the municipal clerk. The only applicable city within Pipestone County is Pipestone. All other cities have a separate filing period of July 31 – Aug. 14. This second filing period also pertains to all the school districts within Pipestone County.
The following offices relevant to voters living within Pipestone County are up for re-election:

Pipestone County
County Commissioner Districts 2 (Incumbent, Les Nath) and 4 (Incumbent, Dan Wildermuth).
District 2 covers Eden, Elmer, Sweet and Gray townships, and the cities of Ihlen, Jasper and Trosky. District 4 covers the south half of the city of Pipestone.
Commissioners serve four-year terms.

Pipestone County Attorney — (Incumbent, Damain Sandy)
Pipestone County Auditor/Treasurer — (Incumbent, Tyler Reisch)
Pipestone County Coroner — (Incumbent, Dr. Larry Christensen)
Pipestone County Recorder — (Incumbent, Mary Ann De Groot)

Pipestone County Sheriff — (Incumbent, Keith Vreeman)

The five offices above serve four-year terms.

Pipestone Soil and Water Conservation District
Soil and Water Supervisor Districts 4 (incumbent, Bill Folger) and 5 (incumbent, Arvin Pater).
Soil and Water Conservation supervisors serve four-year terms.

City of Pipestone
Mayor of Pipestone (incumbent, Myron Koets) and two Pipestone City Council member seats (incumbents: Jim Stout and Rodger Smidt).
The mayor serves a two-year term, the city council members a four-year term.

State representative
Representative District 22A (incumbent, Joe Schomacker, R-Luverne).
State representatives are elected for a two-year term.
