Dorothy Brockberg


Dorothy Brockberg, 89, Trosky, died Friday, Sept. 14, 2018 at the Good Samaritan Communities of Pipestone.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, Sept. 18 at St. John’s Lutheran Church, Trosky, with Rev. Robert Moeller, Jr. officiating.

Honorary casket bearers were Dawn Wynja, Katie Brockberg, Laura Berg and Amber Brockberg.

Casket bearers were Michael Brockberg, Ryan Brockberg, Logan Brockberg, Allan Hachmann, Daniel Brockberg, Derek Brockberg and Dustin Hachmann.

Interment was at the Trosky Cemetery, Trosky.

Dorothy Jean (Totman) Brockberg was born on Jan. 8, 1929 to Valdi and Lois (Reynolds) Totman in Pipestone. Dorothy grew up in Pipestone and graduated from Pipestone High School in 1948.

On June 19, 1955 she married Melvin Brockberg in the Presbyterian Church in Pipestone. Following their marriage, the couple lived on the Brockberg family farm near Trosky. The couple lived on the family farm for 47 years before Dorothy moved to the Good Samaritan Communities of Pipestone.

She was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Trosky. She was a member of the Michael Boock American Legion Auxiliary Post #6 for 70 years and served as the group’s Past President. She also was a member of the VFW Auxiliary in Pipestone. She loved volunteering at the Good  Samaritan Communities of Pipestone to assist the elderly with playing bingo.

She is survived by her husband, Melvin Brockberg, Pipestone; her children, David Brockberg, Pipestone, Gary (Deb) Brockberg, Brookings, S.D., Kathy (Mike) Hachmann, Jasper and Bill (Jody) Brockberg, Jasper; 11 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; four brothers, Harold Totman, Pipestone, Gerald Totman, Pipestone, Earl “Pink” Totman, Minneapolis and Robert Totman, Arizona; one sister, Ethelyn Mae Girard, Minneapolis and many other loving friends and family members.

She was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters, Cleo Steele and Viola Kennedy and one brother, Donald Totman.
