Edmund (Butch) Michael Coughlin, age 75, joined his daughter Katie Courtney and his wife Karen Houlihan in heaven on the morning of Wednesday, Dec. 7.
Ed was born in Pipestone, Minn. on March 19, 1947 to Sylvester and Elaine Coughlin. On March 9, 1968 he married Karen L. Houlihan in Pipestone. Soon after, they moved to Mankato, Minn. and started their family. They were married for 46 years until Karen’s passing in 2014.
Ed graduated from Pipestone High School and Pipestone VoTech. He enlisted in the Army National Guard in 1964 and served seven years. He had a successful 32-year career with Proctor and Gamble in sales operations. His longtime boss and friend said that Ed was the most unique person he ever worked with in how he approached both his work and life.
Ed was truly one of a kind! He had an uncanny ability to make everyone feel special. Ed was an avid hunter, fisherman, and skilled mechanic. He had a big heart with an amazing ability to forgive. He was an expert practical joker, prankster, and storyteller.
Ed was preceded in death by his wife Karen L. Coughlin, daughter Katie C. Coughlin, and son-in-law Mark M. Weber.
Ed is survived by his partner Cindy Winkle, his daughters Shelly (Dicko) Szurek, Kristin Weber, and Leah (Dan) Cunningham, five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren, siblings Lanai Phoung Phun and Helen (Mylan) Ray, and several nieces and nephews.
A celebration of Ed’s life will occur in the Twin Cities area in the spring of 2023, details TBD. A private internment will take place in Calvary Cemetery in Mankato.
