Friends of Library warps up summer schedule

TO THE EDITOR:

Meinders Community Library wrapped up another successful Summer Reading Program with a special event at Westview Park Aug. 23. The featured activity was Pedal to the Metal, Traveling Foundry sand casting and each participant took home a unique piece of artwork after learning about the method.

Everyone enjoyed a picnic lunch with generous donations from Coborn’s, Hank’s Foods, Pepsi and Subway. Thank you to Meinders Community Library Board members Pat Weets and Mary Ann DeGroot for serving, and Larry DeGroot and Dan Wildermuth for doing the cooking.

With purchases through Pipestone Area Friends of the Library (PAFL), we had additional participation from Dari-King and Dairy Queen for treat coupons all summer, and an end-of-the-season grand prize of a bowling party from Bole-Mor Lanes. A huge thank you to all our participating community businesses!

The Summer Reading Program is funded in large part by a grant to PAFL from United Way of Pipestone County. Pedal to the Metal was funded by the MN Arts & Cultural Heritage Fund.

Children’s Librarian Emily Blaeser recorded 116 program participants this year.

PAFL is a 501(c)3 organization which supports the Meinders Community Library in its mission to connect community to ideas, information and inspiration. Information and membership forms are available at the library or online at PAFL@meinderslibrary.com.
