Five homes will be on display on Saturday, Dec. 5 from 1 4 p.m. during the fundraiser hosted by Historic Pipestone, Inc. The proceeds from the tickets sales $10 per person will be used for the ongoing rehabilitation of the historic St. Paul Episcopal Church.
HPI has been hosting the tour since at least 1986, drawing some 150 people during a typical year. A treat for participants this year will be the home of Duane Carlson on Second Ave. SW. Carlson is a Pipestone high school
alumni who left town for Florida shortly after his 1976 graduation. He lived in the Sunshine State for the past 39 years, working as a designer for most of his career. His specialty was actually Christmas decorating. Among his clients were sports celebrities such as Tiger Woods and Arnold Palmer.“It was a blast,” he said about that part of his career. “It was nothing to have a $7,000-$10,000 budget.”
He’s far more modest with his own decorating budget, but still moves the holiday theme throughout the home he purchased when he moved back to Pipestone in March of this year. His style might be described as
contemporary traditional with a bit of the whimsical added.Tickets for the tour can be purchased at any of the homes. After the tour, participants are invited to the Historic Calumet Inn for refreshments.
