Holland News Week of July 11, 2016

I spent the 4th of July at the home of Colleen Quinn and Chloe Bents at Rushmore. That evening we were at Chautauqua Park in Worthington for the concert at the bandshell on the shores of Lake Okabena. Both Quinn and Chloe are members of the Worthington City Band – Quinn on the drum and Chloe playing clarinet. The weather was perfect for sitting out under the starry skies listening to the wonderful music being played for the 240th birthday of our great nation. After the program we watched the fireworks as the evening turned to darkness. I came back home the next day.

What a pleasant surprise to have, Jan and Cheryl Petersen of Clovis, Calif., join us for coffee at the Center Wednesday morning. They were in the area visiting family members and friends.

Thursday morning after Pipestone Golden Club Janet and I spent two hours at Good Sam with the residents. They enjoy us helping with the residents besides spending time to chat with them. After lunch we visited with Ethel Ten Hove, Dorothy LaBrune, Brenda and Greta McDaniel, Colleen Hofelman, Dorothy Brinkman, Louie and Alvina, Bernice Dornbos, Bud and Darlene at Ridge View Estates. That night we were guests of Irma Dreckman for the Dixieland Music Grill out picnic at Good Sam. So it was great to spend time with some of her family members.

What a beautiful rain that we were blessed with last week and it came when needed. The crops were very much in need in certain areas.

Some of the local folks enjoyed the show by the Old Time Fiddlers Sunday afternoon at the PPAC. I did – as it has probably been two or three years since I saw their last show. There was a nice crowd on hand which made it nice – I enjoy fiddle music.

Sunday morning Mary and Larrie came by for me as we witnessed the baptism of Davis Rose DeGroot at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church with Kevin and Kim Uilk as her sponsors. Pastor Jon C. Olson did the officiating. Following the baptism family members and friends enjoyed a luncheon at the DeGroot home. The DeGroots are happy to be back in Pipestone with their little girls. Davis Rose is my seventh great-grandchild.
