Holland News Week of October 24, 2016

This Monday morning seems to be a wonderful fall day as the sun is just appearing on the horizon and as of eight o’clock the temperature tells me it is nearing 40 degrees. The grass is nice and green and there are still leaves on some trees. I honestly believe there are extra leaves this year. The crops are bountiful for the farmers and the weather is great for the harvest of the corn and soybeans.

Twenty folks gathered at the Pipestone Senior Citizen’s Center on Wednesday to take the refresher driver training course and we all had to leave as the instructor never showed up. A call was made to her office that it was on her calendar but for some reason she didn’t come to Pipestone. Our money was returned and we all left. I still haven’t heard the reason why she never came or called. Maybe she had a senior moment like most of us do at times!

I was invited to go back to Ridge View Estates with Greta so it was great to chat with the folks there again. As they were enjoying birthday cake and ice cream with their coffee. Four residents were being honored. It was so nice to be welcomed by so many as I walked from table to table to chat. I knew most of the folks who reside there. Mary picked me up later as she was bringing supper up to Larrie and the guys as they were working late.

Sunday afternoon my siblings, Jeanne, Don and Michelle Sik of Ocheyedan and Missouri Valley, Iowa, Marilyn Udstuen of Slayton, Angie and myself attended the open house held for Ed and Audrey Knutson in honor of their 60th wedding anniversary. The event was hosted by their children at the Americ Inn at Marshall. It was great to see so many of our first cousins on the Knutson side of the family. Before leaving for home Angie and I stopped to visit with Omer’s cousin Rosemarie. She was very happy to see us.

It was nice to have Marlene of Tyler stop in for coffee this morning at the Center. Her sister and husband have returned to their home in California, for the winter. We do miss their smiling faces as we have our coffee and the fellowship each day.
