Pipestone Area Schools (PAS) 2022 homecoming is almost here.

Festivities began with the selection of the homecoming court by the senior class during the first and second week of school. This year’s queen candidates are Kayla Hubbling, Callie Lingen, Brynn Manzey, Arinn McGee and Toryn Woelber. Candidates for king are Merrick Heidebrink, Kellen Johnson, Colton Pottratz, Caden Strasser and Aiden Voss.

Students in grades nine through 12 then voted for a king and queen who will be crowned at the coronation ceremony on Monday, Sept. 26 at 7:30 p.m. in the middle and high school auditorium. The doors will open for the coronation ceremony at 7 p.m. The cost to attend is $3.

The ceremony will include crowning of the king and queen by last year’s royalty; representatives from the football, volleyball, cross country and tennis teams making presentations to the new king and queen; and a slide show produced by the PAS mass communications class. Pages at the coronation will include Kashton Schroyer, 7, the son of Tonya and Creighton Schroyer, and Eleanor Sullivan, 7, the daughter of John and Monica Sullivan.

Homecoming week will include a decorating competition, dress-up days, games, a dance, a talent show, skits, a pep fest and more, all culminating with the homecoming football game against Lake Crystal-Wellcome Memorial Friday, Sept. 30 at 7 p.m. at Paulsen Field. When asked who would win the game, the homecoming candidates said unanimously that PAS would win and provided a variety of prognostications as to the score, which averaged 47 to 4.4.

The homecoming candidate said they enjoy the activities, the anticipation of the big game, visiting the elementary students, seeing everyone coming together and getting out of class during homecoming week. They encouraged community members to not only support the students during the homecoming football game, but also during the home volleyball game against Jackson County Central at 7:15 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 29, the cross country meet Tuesday, Sept. 27 at 4:30 p.m. in Slayton and the marching band at the Festival of Bands in Sioux Falls on Saturday, Oct. 1.
