Meinders Community Library reopened Monday, Dec. 5 in its new temporary location at 220 Third Ave. SE in Pipestone.
“We’re really excited,” said Meinders Community Library Director Jody Wacker on Friday, Dec. 2. “I think it’s going to be fun.”
The process to move from the library’s former location at Pipestone Area Schools (PAS) began in October when library staff started packing boxes. The actual move was done in phases beginning with office and other miscellaneous equipment; then tables, chairs, shelving and spinner racks; then books and furniture; then all remaining items.
Wacker said the new space was move-in ready and the move “went off without a hitch.” She expressed her thanks to the groups, organizations and individuals who helped with the move, as well as the Pipestone Area Friends of the Library and city of Pipestone staff for their help and support.
“The outpouring of help has been unbelievable,” Wacker said. “It’s really nice.”
She said Southwest Minnesota State University and the Morgan Library donated shelfing for the new location. The added shelving means library staff won’t have to dig through boxes to find books for patrons.
Although the library has less space in its new location, there are spaces for books, computers, meetings, reading, play, story time, author talks, a career corner, STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) activities, crafts and more.
“We aren’t going to lose any of our services,” Wacker said. “It will just be maybe a little tinier than what they’ve been experiencing before.”
The library will be open 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Thursday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday and 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday. Wacker said she’d like to add Sunday hours at some point. Story time for kids will be on Tuesdays at 10:30 a.m.
