Reports that a teacher was harmed during a student fight at Pipestone Area Schools (PAS) have proven to be untrue.

One teacher was inadvertently knocked down as she tried to break up a fight between two girls, both minors, but there were no injuries reported, according to Kevin Enerson, PAS superintendent.

The fight broke out over non-school-related issues in a hallway on Thursday, Sept. 15 between the two girls, and lasted a few minutes before five teachers, and a Pipestone County Sheriff’s deputy, intervened. The deputy was stationed at the school at the time and not dispatched for the fight.

The students have been suspended for five days. Enerson said the suspensions were administered in accordance with school district policy and the incident was reported to law enforcement.

The students and their parents must meet with Cory Strasser, PAS middle/high school principal, to talk about how to avoid physical altercations in the future before they are allowed to return to school, Enerson said.
