Ribbons raise $123,050

After animals have been lead, pushed, prodded and cajoled into place for days during the Pipestone County Fair, the reward for the 4-H or FFA student came on Saturday, Aug. 4, during the Ribbon Auction on the final day of the fair.
Potential bidders crowded the bleachers in the Main Arena to bid on the purple, blue, Reserve Champion and Champion ribbons that 4-H and FFA youth exhibitors had earned for the animal projects they showed at the fair for rabbit, poultry, sheep, goat, dairy cattle, swine, horse or beef cattle.
There were 127 exhibitors total who raised a total $123,050 from 51 buyers, with the highest bid at $3,250, according to the accounting office of Meulebroeck, Taubert & Co., PLLP.
Eighty percent of the money raised goes to the youth exhibitor, with the remainder used primarily for the promotion of agriculture and livestock in Pipestone County, and educational and training programs for 4-H and FFA leaders.
The Ribbon Auction is brought to the community by the Pipestone Area Chamber of Commerce Ag Committee.
