Pipestone Area Schools (PAS) Board members during their annual organizational meeting on Jan. 8 unanimously decided to keep Wendy Schoolmeester as board chair for 2018.
This is the third consecutive year the board has selected Schoolmeester as chair, which is rare for a board that has chosen a new chair every year or two in recent years. Schoolmeester said that tells her the board trusts her, and that she’s doing what she’s expected to as chair and as a spokesperson for PAS. She said she’s honored to have been selected chair again and to be part of “a great team.”
The most significant topic of discussion she sees on the horizon in 2018 are the elementary schools, which were determined by a facilities assessment to be in poor condition. The school district’s facilities/buildings and grounds committee will review the findings to determine the most immediate needs and then look at long-term needs, which could include building new elementary schools.
Schoolmeester said her goal for 2018 is to “keep things running smoothly.”
The board also selected Randy Erdman as this year’s vice chair and made some adjustments to the committees on which board members serve.
