Woodstock News Week of August 3, 2015

Welcome to August! July slipped by so fast, I almost missed it, as it was a very busy month!

July 26th was the day in which the Heard family chose for their annual family reunion held at Harmon Park. Approximately 45 members gathered for the occasion, coming from Kansas, Texas and Minnesota. The Texas family were children of Mary and Rex-their son, Steve and Lu, with their daughter Misty and Justice. The weather was perfect for the event!

My daughter Arlis returned from the Cities after spending the week with family and friends. Daryl was home for a few days to visit with her. We all had lunch with Sophie, Emma, and Brooke during the week. Both Daryl and Arlis stopped in Blue Earth to see their brother-in-law Mike, before leaving Saturday morning for their further adventures.

Emma Jasper met with her daughter Betty, Betty’s mother-in-law, her aunt, and three sisters-in-law for a few days at a lake home near Brainerd on Bay Lake, July 25-28. A platoon boat ride was ideal to enjoy the beautiful weather, along with the visiting, eating and just relaxing for a few days.

Emma and Betty than went on to Minneapolis for a first time visit to see her newest great-grandchild, Odessa Marie, daughter of Jill and David Davies. Emma returned home Wednesday evening.

Four neighboring fire departments were involved in a day of slow pitch baseball competition in Woodstock all day Saturday! It was a fun filled day between the four departments Pipestone, Lake Wilson, Woodstock and Ruthton/Holland, with Ruthton/Holland taking home the trophy! Next year they will host the games.

Kennedy and Mackenzie Manderscheid spent the week with grandparents Ed and Kathy O’Hearn, making good use of the pool to keep cool in the hot weather.

Saturday evening I attended the 50th wedding anniversary party held in Ruthton for Darrel and Shirley Houselog. All nine of their children, all grandchildren and great-grandchildren were able to be present for the special occasion. A large crowd celebrated with Darrel and Shirley. Jerry Buse furnished the music for the dance later in the evening. Congratulations to the couple!

Due to certain circumstances, my lawn didn’t get mowed last week! Imagine my surprise when I was the recipient of an “act of kindness” as a Good Samaritan appeared Saturday morning and did it for me! Greatly appreciated and a BIG thank you!
