With the month of May at its half-way point, what a whirlwind life has been. For many in our area, May brings farm planting season and the hopes of a good crop to come. Spring is always a quick blitz to get the crops in the ground then plan for the next step in the process. A quick thanks to all our producers for the impact you have on our local economies and for putting food on our tables.
While my family is certainly not farmers (not even recreational gardeners), the month has been a flurry of activity. Ireland celebrated a confirmation the first part of the month and preparations have been ongoing for Addison’s graduation coming up in 10 days. Throw in two softball schedules, getting Meredith settled back in for the summer, watching Kaitlyn’s dog, and two full-time jobs…. well, we have quite the happenings.
I was recently discussing this hectic-life schedule with another parent going through the May flurry. We shared some frustrations, but more importantly we acknowledged how much we value all the blessings we have. It’s a blessing to be able to watch our kids participate in activities. Whether it’s a sport, choir, FFA, or anything else they have a passion for, it’s great to spend time with them doing what they enjoy. It’s a blessing to see a child graduate and plan for a future that can be anything they want it to be.
We also spoke about how we will miss these activities when they’re gone and that, while we could use some reprieve, we wouldn’t change things a bit. I guess, it’s stepping back from the whirlwind and appreciating what really matters.
So, like my farmer neighbors, I’ll push hard through this busy spring and look forward to the fruits of my labor to come. Along the way will be some breaks to take a deep breath and appreciate all the ways I’ve been blessed.
