COLLEGE SPOTLIGHT: SMSU runner Logan Roelofs

Mustangs opened season at Augustana Twilight Race

MARSHALL — Logan Roelofs is currently competing on the Southwest Minnesota State University cross country team.

Roelofs, who ran scholastically for Russell-Tyler-Ruthton, is a sophomore in academic standing at SMSU.

On Friday, Sept. 5, Roelofs ran in the Augustana University Twilight Race, which featured roughly two dozen colleges and universities.

Roelofs recorded a time of 22:07.5 over the course in Sioux Falls, S.D., which was a pace of 5:31.9. There were 394 runners in the field.

This coming Friday, Roelofs will run at the famed Roy Griak Invitational on the University of Minnesota campus. The men’s race is set for 11:30 a.m., with the women to follow at 12:15 p.m.

This meet also features a high school division, and unattached runners are allowed to compete.

Other future races are set for Wayne State (Neb.) on Sept. 26, the Dordt Classic in Sioux Center, Iowa, on Oct. 11 and the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) championships on Oct. 24.

Roelofs competed in five meets during the 2024 season, recording a 54th place finish at the six-kilometer Minnesota State University-Moorhead Dragon Twilight Meet. He also was 117th at the NSIC championships (27:36.7 over eight kilometers).

Logan is the son of Scott and Beth Roelofs of Ruthton. He is an agriculture business major at SMSU.
