MARSHALL — Former Russell-Tyler-Ruthton standout Cody Wichmann is currently playing for the Southwest Minnesota State University baseball team.
This year, the Mustangs have used Wichmann exclusively as a right-handed pitcher.
Wichmann, a sophomore, has a 1-2 record and 4.76 earned-run average so far during the 2025 season. He has nine game appearances and three starts.

He’s allowed 15 runs (12 earned) on 25 hits with six walks and 17 strikeouts. Opponents are batting .269 against Wichmann.
SMSU stands at 23-19 overall, including 18-17 in Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference games.
The Mustangs were victorious just once in a three-game series versus the University of Mary on Saturday and Sunday at Legion Field. SMSU won the first game of Saturday’s doubleheader, 7-2.
SMSU will be on the road this week at the University of Sioux Falls and Minnesota State in Mankato.

During the 2024 season, he played in 20 games with 11 starts, with a college-best three runs scored and four hits in a game versus Bemidji State on March 29.
As a senior for RTR, Wichmann posted a 16-2 record with 104 strikeouts and an ERA of 0.58 en route to being an all-state selection from the Minnesota Baseball Coaches Association.
Wichmann is the son of Grant and Joy Wichmann. Cody is a physical education major at SMSU.
