CROSS COUNTRY: Pipestone has home meet Monday

Meet at Lac qui Parle Valley was scrapped due to heat

For the first time in a number of years, Pipestone will serve as the site of a high school cross country meet.

The meet is set for Monday at Pipestone Country Club.

“I’m happy we were able to get a meet established, and hopefully have a spot on more teams’ calendars in the future,” PAS head cross country coach Mark Moeller said. “I just want to make sure we run a smooth meet.”

Moeller said he hopes the athletes and coaches “have a great experience so that we can continue to have this meet grow.”

There will be divisions for varsity boys and girls and junior varsity boys and girls.

The start time for the “C” Division boys and girls race will be at 4:30 p.m., followed by varsity girls at 4:50 p.m., and varsity boys at 5:20 p.m.

The “C” division runners will traverse 2,500 meters.

Moeller reported the layout will follow the same design as in 2021 when the Arrows served as host of the Big South Conference meet.

“As long as we have a true five-kilometer run, that’s all I really shoot for,” Moeller explained.

Flandreau, Adrian-Ellsworth, Southwest Minnesota Christian/Edgerton and Russell-Tyler-Ruthton will join PAS in the competition.

What’s more, there will be a Little Arrows race for first- through sixth-graders at 6 p.m. This run will cover 800 meters.

Athletic trainer Jeff Haufschild will be present. Restrooms and concessions will be made available in the country club.

Meet organizers cited heat-related concerns as the main reason for canceling it.

There are plenty of other meets scheduled in the coming days.

PAS and RTR were scheduled to run at the Murray County Central Invitational on Tuesday. SWC/E will compete at the Redwood Valley Invitational in Redwood Falls Thursday.

Elkton-Lake Benton ran at Dell Rapids, S.D., on Monday, and the Elks will compete again on Saturday at Castlewood.
