MARSHALL — Southwest Minnesota Christian/Edgerton’s Jonah Uilk and Hannah Masselink were the region’s top finishers at the Marshall Invitational on Monday, Aug. 25.
Runners traversed Marshall Golf Club, with a limited number of schools participating.
Uilk, who qualified for the 2024 Class A state meet, clocked in with a time of 17:32.6.

Masselink recorded a time of 20:14.5 on the girls’ side.
As for Pipestone Area Schools, Rhaelee Heidebrink was the Arrows’ top girls finisher in 21:53.1 — which was good enough for 17th.
“This is the best start to the season she’s had as a cross country athlete,” PAS head coach Mark Moeller said. “It was close to her personal best.”
Moeller noted Heidebrink trained extensively during the summer.

Other finishers were Amelia Bucher (21st, 22:14.4) and Josie Danks (29th, 24:37.8).
Roman Macias was PAS’ best finisher among boys, clocking in 19:33.3 for 23rd place. Joshua Zupp was 28th (20:20.9).
“Ramon has a lot of talent, and that was a good time for a freshman,” Moeller said. “He has room to grow.”

Macias is becoming acclimated to cross country, which is completely different from running on a track.
Isaiah Fey, a junior running for SWC-E, placed 33rd in a time of 20:46.8.
Isabella Russell, Shayden Jolitz and Makenley DeWilde all ran in the junior varsity girls division, which ran 4,000 meters.
The junior high school race covered 2,150 meters. In the boys’ race, Bo Stogdill was eighth and Barron Feste 13rd. As for the girls, Shiloh Post earned fourth overall (9:53.9).
SWC-E’s Raleigh Van Dyke was fifth (9:55.2), Crystal Soletz 12th and Ellia Van Dyke 22nd.
Samuel Deutz of Marshall claimed the boys’ title in a time of 15:34.9, nearly 41 seconds ahead of Alexander Bur from St. Peter.
Keira Friedrich of St. Peter took the girls title in 17:52.0, nearly two minutes faster than teammate Lucia Penner.
PAS will run at the Tracy-Milroy-Balaton Panther Invitational on Thursday, Sept. 6, with Tracy Golf Club the site. SWC-E competes in the first of multiple Luverne meets Saturday, Sept. 8 on the LHS grounds.
Neither the Eagles nor the Arrows had enough runners for a counted team score.
Other Meets
Collignon Invitational
MADISON, S.D. — Elkton-Lake Benton freshman Adam Kinner placed eighth at the John Collignon Invitational Thursday at Madison Country Club.
Kinner recorded a time of 18:27.56.
Cody Dykstra participated in the junior varsity race, and Noah Kinner, Andrew McMahon, Will Deutz, Lane Yockey, Jadin Otto and Isaac Neill did so at the middle school level. Khloe Neill was the lone Elk girl to compete.
Elkton-Lake Benton has a two meets this week, the Redhawk Run at Hendricks Golf Course on Tuesday, and Saturday at the Don Ray Invitational (Deubrook High School in White, S.D.).
Paul Metcalf Invitational
Russell-Tyler-Ruthton participated in two meets last week at Cottonwood (Lakeview Invitational) Monday, Aug. 25 and the Paul Metcalf Invitational in Mountain Lake Friday, Aug. 29.
At the meet with Mountain Lake Area-Comfrey as host, the Knights scored 265 points on the boys side and 127 points girls.
Summer Labrune was RTR’s best finisher, taking 11th in the varsity girls race (22:36.71), and Ava Guida 34th (25:30.69).

Other girls placements were as follows: Jaeryn Buchert (44th), Elizabeth Determan (47th), Clara Pagel (53rd), Taya Christensen (54th), Ruby Petersen (60th).
Jacob Nilles was the Knights’ best boys finisher in 21:40.13, which was 49th overall.

Ben Labrune was next in 67th with Collin Schulze 69th, Ian Erickson 70th, Jonah Norgaard 73rd, Ben Nilles 82nd, Gavin Erickson 87th, Oliver Pagel 91st, Locklin Matzner 92nd and Jayden Schreurs 96th.
Quinton Gosser was second in the junior high boys race, clocking in at 7:26.05 over the 2,000-meter course.
Weston Van Dyke was 13th and Sylas Determan 18th.
RTR joins PAS and ELB at the Panther Invitational today before competing in the Canby Invitational Tuesday, Sept. 9.
