A test has been made at the site of the new city wall north of town and water was found at a depth of 7 feet under a stratum of sand and gravel. Three wells are to be dug a short distance apart, and water pumped from the three at one station. 4500 feet of 6 inches in water mains was ordered today to conduct the water from the station to town. The council has high hopes that the new wells will furnish an abundance of water.

Tracy M. Hicks of this city had a very narrow escape from death about 5:30 Thursday afternoon when the end of a cable he was holding came into contact with a 7200-volt electric line and the charge passed through his body. Mr. Hicks and his son, Steve, were hoisting a switch into place at the REA sub-station when the truck moved ahead causing the top of the boom to touch the power line. Mr. Hicks was holding a steel cable which the hook at the end of the cable was on the ground, providing an electrical “ground,” and this fact is credited largely with saving the man’s life.

The Pipestone-Jasper School Board voted to combine third and fourth grade classes in Jasper Elementary School and reduce one section of fifth grade in Pipestone next year. Because of declining enrollment the third and fourth grades classes will be combined. The district will have one and one-half teaching positions to cover classes rather than two full time teachers. One section of fifth grade is being cut, so there will be four sections of fifth grade. Some sections will have 24 students and some sections will have 25.
