SLAYTON — Pipestone Area Schools freshman Ramon Macias continues making strides on grass.
Macias recorded an 11th-place finish (19 minutes, 30 seconds) in a field of 73 varsity boys at the Warrior Invitational on Tuesday, Sept. 23, at Slayton Country Club.
“Roman ran a really aggressive race that put him in a great situation to run fast on a difficult course,” PAS head coach Mark Moeller said. “I think he will make even more progress going into the postseason.”

What’s more impressive, Slayton Country Club provides for an old-school setting with demanding hills, several loops and plenty of spectator-friendly spots for watching all the action.
On the girls side, Rhaelee Heidebrink beat teammate Amelia Bucher to the line by three seconds (23:00 and 23:03 respective times). The varsity girls field was composed by 74 runners.
“It’s been a really great dynamic having those two push each other this season,” Moeller said. “They both approach the race entirely different yet seem to blend down to the last half mile to make it a fun race. They’ve both both a great example of what I want to see from the girls every week.”

Two more Arrows earned top-30 finishes.
Joshua Zupp was 27th in the boys’ race, clocking in at 21:34. Alivia Fruechte placed 22nd on the girls’ side (24:15).
Overall, the Pipestone girls were sixth in a field of eight complete varsity squads with 122 points.
Experienced Southwest Minnesota Christian/Edgerton senior Hannah Masselink earned another top finish, taking third (20:58). She also was third at the Redwood Valley Invitational Thursday, Sept. 25 (19:48).

Jonah Uilk, who also competes on the Eagle boys’ soccer team, didn’t run at the Warrior Invite — however, he was fifth at RV in 17:04.
Top Russell-Tyler-Ruthton finishes were turned in by Jaeryn Buchert (29th, 25:22, girls) and Jacob Nilles, Collin Schulze and Benjamin LaBrune were respectively bunched at 35th (22:25), 36th (22:25) and 38th (22:44). Tenths of seconds weren’t listed on athletic.net.
