HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL: Beck attains highest praise

• Quarterback named Class 9AA All-American, first-team selection

ELKTON, S.D. — Elkton-Lake Benton senior quarterback Colt Beck added to his trophy case after completion of the 2025 high school football season.

Beck earned All-American distinction, and he was named Dakota Valley Conference most valuable player.

He also was first-team all-state in the “athlete” category.

“Colt’s stat line was impressive in both passing and rushing on the offensive side of the ball,” ELB head coach Kaleb Haas said. “His total of more than 2,700 offensive yards was the highest in the class. It is quite an honor for Colt to be named the representative for Class 9AA in South Dakota.”

Only one athlete per class earns All-American, Haas noted.

“Every coach within the class casts a vote for one athlete for that class,” Haas said. “A player must be a senior and an all-state player this season.”

Overall, Beck accumulated 2,716 passing and rushing yards combined with 43 TD.

Several other Elks also made the all-state and all-DVC squads.

Eliot Erickson was chosen as an all-state running back and Taiton Boersma for the offensive line.

Erickson had 1,688 rushing yards and 23 TD, plus four more scores in receptions. Boersma helped pave the way for the Elks to amass 4,752 yards.

Boersma was a three-year starter anchoring the offensive line. Erickson showed explosiveness, and could break about any tackle for massive gains.

On defense, Quintin Westley and Myles Poindexter were first-team all-state selections.

Westley recorded 19 tackles for loss, 9-1/2 quarterback sacks and he forced two fumbles. Poindexter forced three fumbles, recorded two interceptions including a TD and 15 tackles for loss.

Westley was responsible for “setting the edge” on defense, and Poindexter’s sideline-to-sideline play resulted in turnovers.

Wanner Enriquez was one of the region’s most reliable kickers, going 43-of-50 on point-after conversions. He also booted home field goals covering 28 and 31 yards, and had seven touchbacks.

“Wanner was a huge weapon all year long for us, placing kickoffs in spots we asked him to,” Haas explained.

Lane Schindler, Beck, Boersma and Westley also were academic all-state picks. The four seniors finished with a cumulative grade-point average of at least 3.5.

Erickson, Poindexter and Westley also were first-team all-DVC honorees. Senior Savion Stephens and Boersma were honorably mentioned by league officials.

Along with Dell Rapids-St. Mary’s skipper Ross Flemmer, Haas was DVC co-coach of the year.

The Elks finished with a 10-2 record, with both losses to 9AA state champion Freeman/Marion/Freeman Academy. They outscored opponents, 489-174, with victories over Hamlin, Britton-Hecla, Hanson and state powerhouse Parkston, 14-8, on Nov. 7.
