HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL: Beck, Elkton-Lake Benton triumph

Poindexter leads defense with five tackles, two passes defensed

WAUBAY, S.D. — And the beat goes on for the Elkton-Lake Benton football team.

The Elks scored 28 first-quarter points en route to thrashing Waubay-Summit, 59-8, in the season-opening game for both schools on Friday, Aug. 22.

ELB (1-0), ranked No. 1 in South Dakota Class 9AA preseason poll, lived up to the hype.

But, the Elks will face a stern test with No. 4 Viborg-Hurley coming to town Friday, Aug. 30. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. at the Elkton Athletic Complex. ELB defeated the Vikings by 16 points last year.

Colt Beck scored the first three Elks’ TD on runs of 38, 60 and 64 yards. Beck added an 8-yard TD pass to Myles Poindexter in the second quarter.
