NEW ULM — The Pipestone Area Schools’ football team excelled in red zone defense to earn its second victory of the season Friday, Sept. 12.
The Arrows denied the Chargers on several trips inside PAS’ own 20-yard line en route to a 28-7 victory over Minnesota Valley Lutheran in Mid-South District, Brown Subdistrict action at Johnson Field.
“We didn’t break,” PAS head coach Scott Boomgaarden noted. “We tightened up inside the red zone and made it tough to score. It was a gritty performance.”
Boomgaarden credited senior linebacker Xavier Banjoko for a pivotal quarterback sack in the win.

The Chargers also had another potential score called back on penalty, per a story written in the New Ulm Journal.
“We’ve got to finish,” MVL head coach Jim Buboltz told The Journal. “We got inside the 10-yard line four times, and only scored once. We left a lot of points out there, and there’s no way I’m happy about this.”
Boomgaarden was pleased with several offensive elements as well, including Luka Quist’s ability to get open for a pair of TD receptions from 13 and 18 yards out.
“Luka is an intelligent player,” the coach said. “He was able to get where he needed to. He finds the soft spot (in zone coverage) and gets into space.”
Kayden White also made some crucial catches during the game to keep drives going.
The Arrows’ first scoring drive went 99 yards, culminating in Austin Musch’s 1-yard TD sneak.
After the scores leveled at 7-all, Musch scored his second rushing TD from four yards away, and the Arrows had the advantage for good. The Chargers also helped with a poor snap on special teams, setting up PAS in plus-territory for Quist’s first score.
