HIGH SCHOOL GIRLS TENNIS: PAS fares well in unique format

Arrows quickly approaching middle of the 2025 season

WORTHINGTON — Pipestone Area Schools’ seniors Vivian Brockberg and Kate Hanson were paired together for a doubles tournament Saturday, Aug. 23.

And the new tandem was successful, feeding off their success from a doubles match versus Lac qui Parle Valley/Dawson-Boyd Thursday, Aug. 21.

“They did really well together,” PAS assistant coach Tanya Schroyer said. “They both stepped up and scored a lot of points.”

The Worthington Tournament has a non-traditional format, with two PAS doubles teams in each one of three flights.

Winning a single game in a match was worth one point.

Yellow Medicine earned the overall team title by accumulating 190 points, followed by the Arrows with 160.

Laura Minet and Jasmine Boeke also played in the first flight for PAS.

Aubrey Brockberg and Sophia Baatz joined forces to win the second flight. Teammates Iva Witte and Ava Boucher also formed a squad in the second flight.

Two PAS teams played in the third flight. Emma Smidt was paired with Ava Jasper. Ireland Draper was combined with Abbi Haack.

Last week’s highlights

The Arrows also played four matches last week versus Yellow Medicine East and MACCRAY (Clara City) at home on Tuesday, Aug. 19 and LQPV/DB and Montevideo on the road Thursday, Aug. 21.

Olyvia Weber earned the Arrows’ lone singles win versus LQPV/DB, defeating Maya Virji, 7-5, 6-2.

Vivian Brockberg and Hanson downed Molly Halvorson and Camryn Olesen, 6-3, 4-6, 6-3.

Aubrey Brockberg and Baatz also won in doubles, defeating Riley Clark and Kenna McTighe, 6-4, 6-2.

Minet and Hanson won singles matches while Aubrey Brockberg and Baatz won in doubles versus both MACCRAY and Yellow Medicine East.

Vivian Brockberg and Boeke posted a 6-3, 6-3 conquest over Breea Johnson and Brooklynn Howe as an event highlight versus YME.

Coming up

PAS opened Big South Conference play this week with a home match against Blue Earth Area on Tuesday, Aug. 26 before hitting the road for St. James Area Thursday, Aug. 28.

The Arrows also will be home for River Valley (Springfield) on Tuesday, Sept. 2.

Match results will feature agate in future editions of the Pipestone County Star this season.
