Ryan Menning’s 1969 Dodge Super Bee earned “Best in Show” distinction during the Pipestone Cruizers event Saturday.
Menning, an Edgerton resident, was one of 93 entries across a broad spectrum of vehicles shown — which were lined up on Second Avenue SW adjacent to the Pipestone County Courthouse.
“The turnout was good,” Pipestone Cruizers organizer Shawn Johnson said.

That’s despite unfavorable weather conditions during the morning thanks to low-hanging gray clouds and a chance of rain. But precipitation thankfully never materialized.
The show was judged by a panel of five (two on cars, two on miscellaneous vehicles and one on trucks).
Jerry Cross, a resident of Jacksonville, Ill., was honored with a plaque for his many years assisting with the event. Cross drives nearly 1,200 miles round trip.

“It was nice to honor him for his dedication and sponsorship,” Johnson said. “He does a lot for our club.”
The Dodge Super Bee is a mid-sized muscle car marketed from 1968-1971, manufactured by Chrysler. The platform was resurrected as the Dodge Charger Super Bee from 2007-2009 and again from 2012-2013.
The origin of the “Bee” name is based on the “B” body designation relating to Chrysler’s vehicles of the day, with its front-engine placement and rear-wheel drive style.
This is an annual charity event from the Pipestone Cruizers, with money donated to local programs.

There was about $2,500 in prize money plus additional goodies for contestants, including a gas grill for adults and power wheels car among children’s giveaways.
There were five trucks honored, including a 1951 Willy’s owned by Wally Lipinski of Canby and a 1921 Ford Model T belonging to Dan Carstensen of Trosky.
