ELKTON, S.D. — The Elk Nation Hall of Fame banquet is set for 5 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 4.
The banquet will take place in the Elkton Community Room on Elk Street in downtown.
Several athletes will be honored — as well as the 2013 state championship cross country team.

Social hour will run until 6 p.m., with the meal and program to follow.
The meal will feature barbecue chicken, smoked macaroni and cheese, a vegetable and dessert.
Tickets will be sold at the door for $20.
Individual inductees are Deb Mahanke (Stein) for basketball and track and field; Lisa Nicholas (Koch), track and field; and Steve Leech, track and field.

The 2013 state championship cross country team was composed of Cole DeRuyter, Quinn Fargen, Justin Sudtelgte, Cameron Harming and then head coach Ervin Gebhart and assistant Mark Harming.
Stein was an Elk from 1981-85, and a letterwinner across several activities including cheerleading, band and choir. She was a member of the all-state choir.
Koch has been the school record-holder in girls pole vault since 2007 when she won the individual state championship in the event. She also lettered in cross country, volleyball and basketball.
Leech was the record-holder in both the long jump and triple jump for a 37-year period from 1987 to 2024.
Fargen was second overall among individuals at the 2013 Class B meet, clocking in with a time of 17:42.8 at Robbinsdale Park in Rapid City.
Cameron Harming established school records in the 800- and 1,600-meter runs in track and field. He had two top-five finishes at state Class B cross country meets during his scholastic career.
Sudtelgte was sixth overall among individual runners at the 2013 state championship (18:14.35).

The Elks scored 25 points, beating Dell Rapids-St. Mary’s by 13 points and Philip by 20. The top-three runners counted toward the overall team score.
