LOCAL GOLF: McCaden Biever takes men’s championship title

Biever also qualifies for the NB Cup in Hendricks Sept. 13

McCaden Biever took the championship flight title at the Pipestone Country Club championships.

Biever carded a two-day total of 151, topping Mitchell Biever by one stroke, in the event concluding on Sunday, Aug. 17.

Wade Newgard was third, three strokes back.

Both McCaden Biever and Mitchell Biever will represent Pipestone Country Club at the NB Cup set for Saturday, Sept. 13, at Hendricks Golf Club.

Newgard, one of the tournament’s organizers, said 61 golfers participated.

In the executive division, Conner Zephier was tops with a 156.

Braxton Heidebrink placed second with a 160, and Merrick Heidebrink third (164). Executive division golfers have a 3.5 handicap or higher.

Emaleigh Rippentrop earned the ladies’ title, with a two-day 157. Rippentrop’s winning performance was fueled by a personal-best nine-hole 35 on the second day.

Brooke Legler, last year’s champion, was second with a 164 and Kerry Johnson third (171).

In the women’s handicap event, Jill DeKam was tops with Jen Pottratz second and Carrie Radloff third. 

Only two spots were paid out in the senior championship division, with Duane Hess shooting a 149 for the title. Stu Zephier was second, eight strokes behind. Marv Hilgeman was third overall.

In the seniors match-play contest, Bob Vanorny won the “A” flight over Gary Haupert, and Tom Dibble placed third.

Jerry Aaland was the “B” flight champion, with Christopher Miller second and Brandon Moeller third.

Seniors played from the gold tees.

Golfers dodged raindrops during the tournament, and there was a small rain delay during play Sunday.
