LOCAL: ‘Mayhem’ reigns supreme in pull

Look for Great Plains results in the Star's Aug. 14 edition

The National Tractor Pullers Association conducted a show on Friday, Aug. 1, during the Pipestone County Fair.

The event drew a mammoth crowd to see contestants vie for top honors in one of six pulling classes.

The six divisions were four-wheel drive, limited pro stock, super farms, super stock four-wheel drive vehicles, pro stock semis and pro farms.

Most of the contestants participate in United Pullers of Minnesota events across these Land of Lakes.

Bill Suchy, driving Totally Geared, earned top honors in the four-wheel drive class with a laser-measured pull of 325.378 feet, which was 4.1 feet further than David O’Connor’s attempt (321.290).

Goldrush, driven by Atwater’s Jason Rosenquist, was the champion in the competitive limited pro division. Rosenquist’s pull was 317.785, inches better than Bill Daluge (317.571).

Steve Rudie, also of Atwater, drove an International 1066 to mark of 336.229, dominating the Super Farms class by more than nine feet over second best.

Mayhem, propelled by Peyton A. Berg of Ellsworth, Wis., recorded a massive pull of 347.291 to win the Super Stock Four-Wheel Drive division. Ron Tuma’s Goliath was next 7.1 feet behind.

Berg’s pull was the best of the entire show, which lasted a little more than three hours.

In the Pro Stock semis class, Carver’s Michael Lee Adams’ Stier Trucking was tops with a pull of 315.567, four feet better than Jasn Widdifield’s Scherber Company (311.082).

Another vehicle with the Mayhem name, New Prague’s Marty Shambour recorded a pull of 343.508 — taking the garland in the pro farms class. Ageless, driven by Blake Kolles, was next (337.624).

Great Plains Tractor Pullers produced a separate show on Saturday afternoon, and served as the opening act on Friday, which included several local pullers.
