
Funeral services were held Saturday, April 25 at St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, Lake Benton, with Pastor Joel McKenney officiating.
Casket bearers were Nikki Johnson, Stephanie Hedstrom, Samuel Rollefson, Chris Carstensen, Jessica Bartlett, Melani Beebout, Natosha VanLiere, Amanda Sadler, Heather Luitjens and Matthew Hup.
Interment was in St. John’s Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery, Verdi.
Mavis Anita (Willert) Rollefson was born on May 17, 1925 in a farmhouse in Verdi Township to Henry Jr. and Rosella (Dorn) Willert. She was baptized and confirmed in the Verdi Immanuel Lutheran Church, remaining a devoted member of St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Lake Benton where she taught Sunday school and was a member of the Dorcas Society.
She attended country school for eight years and graduated from Verdi High School in1943. She went to teacher training for a year and taught country school near Ward, S.D. for three years.
On June 8, 1947 she married Albert Rollefson at Verdi Immanuel Lutheran Church.
She was involved in the Verdi Community Club. She spent many hours volunteering at the Good Samaritan Home for over 25 years.
Mavis remained living on the family farm until 2014 when she moved to Falls Landing in Pipestone. She was admitted to McKennan Hospital on Thursday, April 16, 2015.
She is survived by her children, Ronald (Doris) Rollefson, Ward, Renae (Robert) Nichols, Lake Benton, Cindy (Kelly) Nichols, Marshall, Richard (Charlotte) Rollefson, Silbey, Iowa and Joann (Jerry) Hup, Pipestone; 10 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Albert, in 1988; one brother, Norman Willert and sister-in-law, Lois Willert.
