Saturday, June 28, 2025 will be Erica Volkir Day in the city of Pipestone. Pipestone Mayor Dan Delaney proclaimed it so during the June 16 Pipestone City Council meeting.

The proclamation cited Volkir’s 10 years as executive director of the Pipestone Area Chamber of Commerce; her efforts to promote commerce, tourism, agriculture, education and professional interest in the Pipestone area; her service as a community leader; her service on the Southwest Minnesota Arts Council, Girl Scouts, Pipestone Kiwanis, Friends of the Casey Jones State Trail System, Veterans Memorial Committee, Community Improvement Commission and other organizations; and her and Chamber Administrative Manager Tom Steffes’ support of local activities and civic groups.
“Most notably, they have been instrumental in continuing the Pipestone annual Water Tower Festival in its 36th year,” Delaney said while reading the proclamation. “They have served the Pipestone community with pride and enthusiasm that has been contagious to all who have been so fortunate to witness. Their extraordinary efforts are admired by the entire community.”

Volkir, who was at the meeting, thanked Delaney and said Steffes told her there was a problem with the Water Tower Festival to get her to come to the meeting.

“So, I’m honored and relieved,” she said.
