Lisa Sneller, of Pipestone, has opened a new business called More than Lip Service at the Plaza Salon at 717 Sixth Street SE in Pipestone.

The business offers a variety of cosmetic and skin care services, including injections using Botox and Juvederm.

Sneller said Juvederm is a filler made of hyaluronic acid, which is something the body produces and that it produces less of after the mid-20s. She said the injections last around 12 to 24 months and dissolves in the body. She said there is also an enzyme that can be injected to dissolve it sooner if desired.

Sneller said Botox uses botulinum toxin, which paralyzes muscles and can be used to reduce wrinkles, and treat migraines, jaw pain and other body pain. She said it lasts about three months and also is absorbed by the body. Unlike, Juvederm, it cannot be removed before it naturally dissolves.

More than Lip Service also offers micro needling and chemical peels.

Sneller does the micro needling using a SkinPen.

“We just put numbing cream on your face, let that sit for 20 minutes and then just go slowly in a pattern,” Sneller said. “It puts little holes in your skin and it causes your body to go into overactive healing mode, so it stimulates collagen production and your skin becomes tighter and firmer and younger appearing.”

Sneller said the process leaves the skin red for about four hours, but that it is safe for all skin types.

The chemical peels are done using a VI Peel. Sneller said the skin peels are safe for people 13 and older and can be used to treat acne, dark spots, sun damage and other skin concerns.

Sneller said she took about 40 hours of training for the services she will offer at More than Lip Service, including 20 hours online and 20 hours of hands on training. She has some additional training planned for May that will focus on pain relief treatments.

She said she decided to open More than Lip Service because the services offered there were not available locally. She said she’s also had a long-time interest in skin treatments and believes the services can help create a positive self image that can make people feel better about themselves.

“I wanted something in Pipestone that people were driving a long way for and spending a significant amount of money on that I thought we could offer here, and just something fun and different,” Sneller said. “I have always been interested in acne treatments and skin treatments, especially for teenagers, so my interest started there and then just kind of grew.”

Dr. Jodi Scott will be working with Sneller at More than Lip Service. Dr. Scott previously worked as an obstetrician/gynecologist at Pipestone County Medical Center (PCMC) where Sneller has worked as a nurse for about 21 years. Sneller said she will continue working as a nurse at PCMC and that Dr. Scott is doing locum obstetrics work in southwest Minnesota and will continue that work.

Sneller said the state requires that any treatment provided by a registered nurse must be provided under the direction of a physician, so she reached out to Dr. Scott, who agreed to serve as her medical director. Dr. Scott will provide the same services that Sneller does.

More than Lip Service is open Mondays from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m., Tuesdays from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. and Fridays from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and services are provided by appointment only.
