Paul E. Fellows, 83, of Metropolis, Ill. died July 14, 2025, at his home.
Graveside services were held on Friday, July 18 at Metropolis Memorial Gardens, with Rev. Joey Dunning officiating. There was no visitation. Family and friends were invited to come directly to the cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Massac County Historical Society, c/o Rozann Wilkins, 812 Catherine Street, Metropolis, Ill. 62960 or First Methodist Church, 100 East 5th Street, Metropolis, Ill. 62960.
Mr. Fellows graduated from Pipestone, Minn. High School, class of 1960. He received his bachelor’s degree from Macalester College in St. Paul, Minn. and did graduate work at the University of Arizona in Tucson. He worked for the Illinois Department of Natural Resources as historic site superintendent at Fort de Chartres and Fort Massac state parks.
Mr. Fellows wrote the ”Yesterday’s News” column in the Metropolis Planet, as well as a series of books titled Massac Memories.
He was a charter member of Massac County Historical Society, where he served as president for many years. He was also a member of Kincaid Mounds Support Organization, Metropolis First Methodist Church and Massac Gun Club.
He is survived by Elizabeth (Betsy) Fellows, his wife of 58 years, of Metropolis; two sons, Stephen Fellows of Murphysboro, Ill. and Andrew Fellows and wife Amanda Keathley of Louisville, Ky.; one daughter, Elizabeth Brown and husband Robert of St. Louis, Mo.; one grandson, Wyatt Brown of St. Louis, Mo.; one sister, Judy Fellows of Pipestone, Minn.; one sister-in-law, Carol Heburn and husband Thomas of Rome, N.Y.; and two nieces.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Theodore and Julia Lusk Fellows.
