EDA director renamed community development director
The Pipestone City Council during its Sept. 15 meeting approved adding planning and zoning duties to the job description of Pipestone Economic Development Director Justin Schroyer and changing the position title to community development director. According to information provided at the meeting, a community development director serves as the city’s lead for guiding growth, fostering economic opportunity and ensuring thoughtful land use planning.
The move followed the resignation of the city’s former Building and Zoning Official Solomon Derby and subsequent hiring of SAFEbuilt to handle building official duties. City Administrator Deb Nelson recommended the changes because SAFEbuilt will not be handling planning and zoning duties. The changes took effect immediately and the new job description was sent to David Drown Associates to determine if the changes require a pay grade adjustment.
Fire prevention week proclaimed
Mayor Dan Delaney proclaimed Oct. 5 through 11 as Fire Prevention Week in Pipestone. The 2025 Fire Prevention Week theme is “Charge into Fire Safety: Lithium-Ion Batteries in Your Home,” which is intended to remind people of the importance of using, charging and recycling lithium-ion batteries safely to reduce the risk of fires in homes and communities, according to the proclamation.
