Safe Routes to School agreement approved
Pipestone County Commissioners during their June 24 meeting approved a Safe Routes to School (SRTS) agreement with the city of Pipestone. The Pipestone City Council approved the agreement during its June 16 meeting. The project will add a sidewalk along Fourth Street Northwest from North Hiawatha Avenue to Eighth Avenue Northwest, and along Eighth Avenue Northwest from Second Street Northwest to 68th Avenue in Pipestone. Pipestone County is sponsoring the project for the city because Pipestone’s population is less than 5,000 and the SRTS program requires applicants to be a Municipal State Aid city, which means they have a population of 5,000 or more, or have their county sponsor them. Pipestone County will not incur any costs, according to the agreement.
New transit facility supported
The commissioners approved a letter supporting a new transit facility in Pipestone. According to the letter, the commissioners express their “strong commitment to the construction and successful completion of a new bus storage facility for United Community Action Partnership (UCAP),” which provides transit services in the county. The letter indicates that the commissioners endorse an application from the Minnesota Department of Transportation in partnership with UCAP for a Federal Transit Administration grant for a new facility. County Administrator Steve Ewing said UCAP is proposing to place the facility east of the Pipestone County Public Services Building off of North Hiawatha Avenue.
Commissioners minutes to be digitized
Pipestone County Commissioners approved paying ArcaSearch $638 to add commissioner minutes from 2020 through 2024 to a digital archive that makes them searchable by word. Ewing said all other minutes up to 2020 had been scanned previously and that the system works well. He said it provides a digital backup of the minutes in addition to providing easy search capability. The searchable archive can be found under the Agendas & Minutes tab on the county’s website at www.pipestone-county.com.
Fuel bids approved
The commissioners approved a low bid from Dierks Oil Company for gasoline and diesel fuel for the Pipestone County Highway Department. The company was the low bidder from among three companies that submitted bids. The approved prices were $2.518 per gallon for gasoline with a 2 cent margin, and $2.58 per gallon for B5 diesel and $2.63 per gallon of B20 diesel with an 8 cent margin. The highest bid prices ranged from about 11 cents to 37 cents higher depending on the type of fuel.
