Southwest Acres lot sold and development planned
The Pipestone Economic Development Authority (EDA) during its Sept. 15 meeting approved the sale of a lot in Southwest Acres Third Addition to Alison Douty. The EDA also approved extending sewer and water service to that lot and seven others in Southwest Acres Third Addition for an estimated $50,000.
Community Development Director Justin Schroyer said water and sewer had to be extended to the lot sold to Douty. That being the case, EDA members said they thought it made sense to connect the entire area, so the other lots were ready to be sold.
During a public hearing held to take comments on the sale of property to Douty, Jeff Einck, who lives in Southwest Acres, said Douty’s plans met covenants for the area and that he and other residents were in favor of the lot being sold to her.
Childcare development loan program approved
The program would provide forgivable loans of up to $5,000 for home childcare providers and up to $10,000 for childcare centers. The funds are to be used to become a licensed provider or expand slots in an existing operation. Eligible applicants include prospective home childcare providers and childcare centers, and current providers and centers expanding capacity.
The loans are for terms of five years with 10 percent forgiven at the end of each of the first four years and the remaining 60 percent forgiven after the end of the fifth year. Loan repayments will be deferred for five years or until the provider ceases operation, whichever is first. Failure to remain an active provider will result in required repayment of funds that have not yet been forgiven.
