TRACK AND FIELD: Several athletes earn gold at Red Rock meet

Southwest Minnesota Christian/Edgerton girls place second at meet

SLAYTON — Several Southwest Minnesota Christian/Edgerton and Russell-Tyler-Ruthton athletes earned gold medals at the Red Rock Conference meet on Thursday, May 15.

On the boys’ side, SWC/E’s Ryan Pap came through with a first-place finish in the 400-meter run, clocking in at 51.97.

Teammate Silas Van Essen recorded a time of 41.22 to win the 300-meter intermediate hurdles.

Josimar Van Hulzen, Tyler Pap and Jonah Uilk joined Ryan Pap to win the 4×400-meter relay in a strong time of 3:37.71.

Soon-to-be Dakota State University football player and current Russell-Tyler-Ruthton senior Sean Griesse continued preparations for his upcoming gridiron season by grabbing first place in the long jump (20-feet, 9.5-inches).

As for the girls, RTR freshman Arlee Swanson claimed gold in the long jump by marking at 15-4.25.

Also in the field events, SWC/E junior Gracelyn Fick was tops in the pole vault at 8-6 and teammate Corrie Thomson, a senior, won the shot put marking at 31-4.

The Knights also took the garland in the 4×400 relay as the quartet of Jaeryn Buchert, Elizabeth Determan, Ava Guida and Ava Karbo clocked in at 4:31.64.

SWC/E’s girls earned enough points for second place (117.5) while RTR was fifth (75). As for the boys, SWC/E was third overall (108) and the Knights fifth (69).

Both SWC/E and RTR will be in action Thursday at the Section 3A subsection meet scheduled for Luverne High School’s Cardinal Field. Field events begin at 4 p.m., with running to follow at 5 p.m. Tickets are $8 for adults and $5 for students since this is a postseason event.
