Jeff Fikse plans to build a machine shed at his property in the southeast quarter of Section 8 of Burke Township. He was recently granted permission to build the shed in the location indicated by the red rectangle on this map, which is less than the required 150 feet from the center line of state Highway 30. The Pipestone County Board of Appeals during its Nov. 4 meeting approved a variance allowing Jeff Fikse to build a machine shed at his property in the southeast quarter of Section 8 of Burke Township that will be less than 150 feet from the center line of state Highway 30 as required by the county’s zoning ordinance. The approval included the condition that the shed not be less than 120 feet from the center line of the highway.
Fikse said he selected the proposed location for the 50-foot by 64-foot machine shed because there’s an open area in that part of his yard and it wouldn’t fit well elsewhere. He said the shed would be about 120 or 125 feet from the center line of the road, which is about the same distance as his house.
“It just fits in there so nice,” Fikse said. “It’s still tucked behind the trees we have planted there by the highway. I think it’s going to look nice.”
No one attended the public hearing to take comments about Fikse’s plans and Pipestone County Planning and Zoning Administrator Kyle Krier said he had received a call from one neighbor, who supported the plans. He also said the Minnesota Department of Transportation had no objections.
